President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) opened the Touch Taiwan 2024 display exhibition on Wednesday (April 24).
Accompanied by officials such as Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦) and Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Lin Chuan-neng (林全能), Lai delivered a speech on Taiwan's progress in smart displays, per CNA.
The president-elect recounted his tenure as premier saying that in 2018 he was invited to a discussion at AU Optronics' Taichung campus. He then promoted the "Taiwan Display Technology and Application Action Plan," which had a budget of NT$17.7 billion (US$543 million) over five years. He said 216 projects were implemented.
Lai said Taiwan's display technology ranked second globally in shipments and output last year. Taiwan has also established the world's first MicroLED production line, providing optimism for future development, he added, per UDN.
"The new government will collaborate with the industry and listen to their suggestions," Lai said. "Display technology and semiconductors are the mainstays of Taiwan's economic development, and the government will value every industry's growth," he added.
Organized by Chan Chao International Co., Touch Taiwan is held at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1, Floor 4 and runs from April 24-26.
